Canadian River Art to Represent Cynthia Clay

We are pleased to announce that Canadian River Art will be representing Cynthia Clay from Oklahoma. Since the 1960s, Cynthia Clay has been producing paintings and sculptures that reflect her Comanche heritage. The grandchild of Quanah Parker’s youngest daughter, Cynthia offers a unique, often provocative, view from the perspective of a Comanche woman. A major theme of her paintings and three-dimensional pieces is the sometimes antagonistic, sometimes symbiotic, relationship between the white and Comanche cultures. Whether representational watercolor and ink drawings, surreal, dream-like oils, or unorthodox sculptures, Cynthia’s works are always emotional and thought-provoking. Many of her creations have been displayed in galleries in Santa Fe and Taos, New Mexico, as well as throughout Oklahoma. Winner of first prize for both bronze and stone sculpture at the 2009 Red Earth Festival in Oklahoma City, Cynthia’s art continues to evolve and challenge all those who see it.
